Hipsters are often recognizable by their iconic looks, and particular styles can be commonly seen throughout this subculture. Male hipsters often have shaggy, bedhead hair and always overgrown facial hair. Indie burns, full beard, and perma-shadow are some common types of facial hair that males display (Lanham 53). Their grooming style can often make them look dirty or scruffy. They can be seen wearing flannel, ironic T-shirts, thrift store finds, skinny jeans, converse sneakers, and vans shoes (Aiello 173). Male and female hipsters often tend to carry messenger bags, wear fashion scarves, and peek through dark framed glasses that aren’t actually prescriptions. Female hipsters also are prone to unique hairstyles. Many females have dyed hair in often unnatural colors (Aiello 179). Pixie cuts, messy buns, and long wavy hair are some common styles (Lanham 54). Hipster females often wear the same type of clothes as the males because, their fashion is mostly unisex.
